Audio and Video Signal Cable Connections

Overview

Connect a video signal cable to the jacks in these standard connection plates.

Feature

This is the interface plate, mounted in the wall or table whereby a user can connect a VGA cable, HDMI cable, or audio signal cable, to transmit audio and/or video to a display (projector or TV).

How to use this feature

If the signal cables are present and connected to this interface plate, connect the other end to your device. In some cases, an adapter cable may be necessary.

If no signal cable is present, check for any VGA or HDMI cables in a nearby drawer or countertop. If no suitable signal cable is present, please call or email the IWU support center and request a cable be installed in that location. Please provide the type and length of cable needed, and the specific location of the room and the projector. If your source device, like a laptop or tablet, does not have a VGA or HDMI jack in it, then you may need an adapter cable, sometimes called a dongle.

Benefits of this feature

This plate places the connection near the expected location of the source device, often a laptop or document camera. This way, the signal cable need only be 10 or 15 feet long to connect to this plate. A damaged signal cable can be quickly swapped out at the source, while the installed cables, behind the wall, are protected from damage.

When to use this feature

Use this feature when you need to connect your laptop or mobile device near the location of the cable connection. Otherwise, connect your device at the teaching station, using the signal cables provided there.

In some classrooms, where the teaching station has limited countertop space, and the proximity to the cable connection is minimal, there will be no signal cables provided at the teaching station, and instead the cables are provided at this wall plate connection.
