Advisor Can't Access Student Educational Planning


Explains how to resolve an issue where no advisor is unable to access Student Educational Planning which is used for CAS Online Registration.


  • Advisor goes to the Adviseee Detail and Student Educational Planning link on the Advising Resources menu in DataConnect and is unable to bring up any of their current advisees.
  • Advisor is able to view the menu and the link to the screen, but gets an error message when trying to approve an ed plan.


This fix should be performed by someone in the Residential Academic Services office.
  1. Using Colleague UI go to the SVM screen 
  2. Enter the advisor's ID number
  3. If the advisor doesn't have a staff record, then the screen will ask that to create one.


  1. Create the staff record, try using their initals, if there is no middle name, then use an "X"
  2. if there set of initials is taken, then append a number starting with "2" after the initials until it will take it.
  3. The office code needs to be set to "NC".
  4. The status needs to be set to current.
  5. The staff type is "S" for staff.



Omitting the Office Code 
If there is no office code, then the person has access to everything.  "NC" is used to indicate that the user doesn't have any specific office codes, but needs the record to access Student Educational Planning.
