This guide should resolve any particular issues with the agent and inform how it works.
The Solarwinds agent management screen is the primary place to install an agent. However, the agent can also be installed from the individual node details screen or manually from the server.
If a reinstallation is attempted, the service should be stopped first or a reboot will be required.
- Changing the polling method to WMI from agent and back again is supposed to initiate a check of the agent plugins. In reality, the agent response time stops working and the node is shown as down.
- Some agent plugins have an old plugin and refuse to update. This may be due to the underlying Windows version.
- An issue exists where an agent can get stuck. The node will show a status of down but the agent is fine. The workaround is to place the node status to come from ICMP instead of the agent. A call has been placed to Solarwinds regarding this.
- Agents are dependent upon .Net. Sometimes, the server needs to be rebooted. https://solarwinds.indwes.edu/Orion/Report.aspx?ReportID=368
This is what was achieved and what was omitted in this how-to.
