Print Screen - Mac OSX

To take a snapshot of your whole desktop:

Hold Down the Command Key, Shift Key and press 3 - Saves to your Desktop

Hold Down the Command Key, Control Key, Shift Key and press 3 - Allows you to paste directly into an Application.

 

To take a snapshot of a specific area (Gives you a crosshairs for selecting the area).

Hold Down the Command Key, Shift Key and press 4 - Saves to your Desktop

Hold Down the Command Key, Control Key, Shift Key and press 4 - Allows you to paste directly into an Application

 

To take a snapshot of a specific window and you want to be very precise.

Hold Down the Command Key, Shift Key and press 4 then press the spacebar. - The cursor becomes a camera and if you click on the window you want it will capture that window even if covered by other windows.

Hold Down the Command Key, Control Key, Shift Key and press 4 then press the spacebar - Allows you to paste directly into an Application

 

Using the Grab Application:

Grab is located in Applications\Utilities.

Grab has several options for capturing an image of your screen.

  • Selection - Takes a picture of a part of the screen you select. (Identical to holding the Command Key, Shift Key and pressing 4.)

 

  • Window - Takes a picture of the window you select. (Identical to holding the Command Key, Shift Key and presing 4 then pressing the spacebar.)

 

  • Screen - Takes a picture of your entire screen. (Identical to holding the Command Key, Shift Key and pressing 3.)

 

  • Timed - Allows you to set a timer before the picture is taken, which allows you to open menus that normally would not stay open.
