Kindly follow this steps below Symptoms: You have a computer that has or had a previous antivirus/antispyware program installed. Symantec Antivirus fails to install with a 1920 error. If Symantec Antivirus is already installed, the service will throw a 1067 error when you try to start the service. You may also see previously uninstalled antivirus/antispyware programs listed in the Windows Security Center.
Cause: Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) repository data is no longer usable. Symantec Antivirus service is unable to interact with it correctly. This problem can be resolved if the WMI repository is purged of the offending data. In some circumstances, you will be required to be in Safe Mode to use these instructions.
- Type cmd.exe in the Vista search menu.
- Run command: net stop winmgmt. Accept the prompt that lets you know other services will be stopped as well.
- Find folder C:\windows\system32\wbem\repository. Rename the folder Repository to Repository.old. If you are denied permissions due to files being in use, you may need to retry these steps in Safe Mode.
- Reboot the computer.
- Verify the folder C:\windows\system32\wbem\repository gets created automatically. It may take a few minutes.
You should now be able to install Symantec Antivirus. If it is already installed, the Symantec Antivirus service will now start correctly.
