OPAL - Replacing Tape Drive (136T)

Overview

Steps needed to be performed when replacing a dive in the 136T

Symptoms

Drives showing errors on the NetBackup Administrative Console. 

Resolution

These are the steps to resolve the problem.

1.     If Drive has failed Notify Service Express.

          Note the following on the drive that has failed:

  • The serial number of the failed drive.

  • The Robot number of the drive that has failed

 

2.     To remove the drive:

  1. In NetBackup Administrator screen navigate to:

Devices> Standalone Drives

  1.  Right click the drive that is to be replaced
  2. Select “delete” to remove the failed drive
  3. Turn off the 136t
  4. Remove the failed drive.
  5. Replace the drive with the new drive at this time.

 3.    Make note of the serial number of the new drive.

4.    To add\ install the new drive:

  1. In NetBackup Administrator screen navigate to:

Devices> Standalone Drives

  1. Right click in the window “DriveList for Host”
  2. Click on “New”
  3. In the “Devices” browse for the new drive and select it.
  4. In “Add Drive” window:
    1. Drive Type DLT3 Cartridge [dlt]
    2. Drive Name: Modify the name to match the "QUANTUMSuperDLTxx" format.
    3. Check - "Drive is in a robotic library"
    4. Insert the correct robot drive number.
    5. Click "OK"
    6. Close the Administrator Console and reboot OPAL'
