Confidential Information

Policy

Employees of Indiana Wesleyan University may be privy to confidential information of the University and those with whom the University has a business or academic relationship.  Employees are strictly prohibited from disclosing, directly or indirectly, such confidential business information.

 

In accordance with the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, all employees are required to shred any document that contains personal information prior to discarding it to prevent identity theft. Personal information could be a telephone number, address, Social Security number, etc. The law requires the destruction--“shredding or burning” or “smashing or wiping”--of all paper or computer disks containing personal information that is “derived from a consumer report” before it is discarded.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees of the University.
