Datatel runs over multiple servers.  Included in this document are the specification and recovery plans for AMETHYST and BERYL.  The UI is on SILVER.  The data warehouses are included on other servers (SQL Server Farm and virtual server REPORTS).

               Short Term Recovery plan:         

Amethyst has a CPU box and an expansion box.  If the expansion box fails the plan is to isolate it and run completely off the CPU box.  If the CPU box fails the hard drive can be restored to the expansion box.  If neither of these steps work then install on SILVER or smaller box. 

Long Term Recovery plan:

Replacement servers would need to be procured.  This would be followed by data restoration from backup

Server troubleshooting/documentation:

               Note:     After operating system is installed on a new server you must add an entry for crossover to both Amethyst and Beryl.  This can be found at c:\\windows\system 32\drivers\etc.  This will not prevent the connection between the two from running but it will be considerably slower.

RECOVERY STRATEGY:

               Short Term Recovery strategy:  

First call IBMBERYL is composed of two parts - a CPU and an expansion box.  If the expansion box fails – isolate it from the CPU and steal the expansion box from AMETHYST.  If primary fails attempt to fix by mixing and matching using own parts.  Otherwise move to another replacement box (NAVY?) that would be big enough.  BERYL has more memory than AMETHYST thus invalidating it as a candidate for virtualization.  However, some components like listeners could be virtualized.

Long Term Recovery strategy: 

Replacement parts or a complete server would need to be procured from IBM.

Recovery Point Objective:           24 hours

               Shutdown procedure:    Suggested preference:  Shutdown SQL services before shutting down server.

Backup Procedures:

Backup policy: (when, where):   Uses established retention schedule for backing to OPAL (20:00 nightly) and restored to GRAPHITE the following morning.   Additional component SQL>Hyperbac>PURPLE>Tape.   Hyperbac captures SQL stream and zips the resultant files.  If this fails files still go to OPAL just not compressed.
