PURPLE - Status Error 228

Response to Status Error 228 on backup system 3/29/2012..

Error message received.

We will need the nbpem process' log data from your master server at the time of a DSSU relocation failure to determine two things.

  • First, if the EEB you were provided with is appropriate for the issue encountered, and
  • if so, why the patch did not have the desired effect.

In order to capture the necessary data the nbpem log's verbosity will need to be increased to DebugLevel 6, this unfortunately greatly increases the disk space consumed by logging, so it is best to perform the following operations at a time when the DSSU relocation can be manually initiated, so the log verbosity can be turned back down immediately after the manually generated failure.

Once this can be scheduled please start by increasing the log verbosity with the following command on "purple":

D:\"Program Files"\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\vxlogcfg -a -p 51216 -o 116 -s DebugLevel=6 -s DiagnosticLevel=6

Once complete, please access your NetBackup Admin GUI and Navigate to Storage > Storage Units.

Locate the desired DSSU and right-click on it, selecting "Manual Relocation to Final Destination".

This will create a new job in your Activity Monitor to handle the duplication to tape. Once the failure occurs please run the following command on purple to gather the previous 20 minutes of nbpem log data and send it to our FTP server for review:

D:\"Program Files"\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\support\nbcplogs.exe -d 20m --logs=vxul.nbpem --no-nbsu --ftp 600-772-132

Unfortunately this process does not notify me when the upload completes, so please send me a message when the script completes.

Once sent you can run the following command to return nbpem's log verbosity to its original configuration:

D:\"Program Files"\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\vxlogcfg -a -p 51216 -o 116 -s DebugLevel=0 -s DiagnosticLevel=0

Additionally, please also open the failed duplication job in your Activity Monitor and copy the text presented in the Detailed Status tab, sending it in for review via e-mail.
