Westlaw Campus Issues

Overview

The OCLS Database West Campus appears to have some issues authenticating users who access the database with various internet browsers. This Guide will walk you through adjusting some options to make the access more reliable.

Internet Explorer 9.X+

 Restore the Internet Explorer Menu Bar if it isn’t displaying or just click on the gear image in the upper right corner. 

 

  1. Click the Alt key on your keyboard to restore the Menu Bar temporarily.
  2. To display the Menu Bar permanently, click View on the Menu Bar, select Toolbars, then check Menu Bar.  

 Modify Internet Options to resolve printing/downloading issues.

 
 
  1. Click Tools on the Menu Bar or click on the gear image and select Internet Options.
  2. Click the Privacy Tab and check Turn on Pop-up Blocker. Click Settings.  
  3. Type *.indwes.edu under Address of web site to allow. Click Add.
  4. Type *.oak.indwes.edu under Address of web site to allow. Click Add.
  5. Type campus.westlaw.com under Address of web site to allow. Click Add.
  6. Type *.westlaw.com under Address of web site to allow. Click Add.
  7. Type print.westlaw.com under Address of web site to allow. Click Add.
  8. Type web2.westlaw.com under Address of web site to allow. Click Add.
  9. Type next.westlaw.com under Address of web site to allow. Click Add. Click Close
  10. Click the Security Tab and select the Internet Globe.
  11. If PC has Windows Vista or Windows 7, verify that Enable Protected Mode is checked.
  12. Click Trusted sites then click Sites. Uncheck Require server verification.
  13. Type *.westlaw.com under Add this web site to the zone. Click Add. Click Close. 
  14. Click Trusted Sites. If PC has Windows Vista or Windows 7, check Enable Protected Mode. 
  15. Click Custom Level. Scroll to the Miscellaneous section and enable Display Mixed Content. 
  16. Scroll to the Scripting section and enable Allow Programmatic Clipboard Access. 
  17. In the Scripting section set Enable XSS Filter to Disable.
  18. Click Okay. Click Yes if you get a warning screen. Click Okay
  19. Click Tools on the menu bar or the Gear image and select Compatibility View Settings. 
  20. Type *.indwes.edu under Add this website. Click Add.
  21. Type *.westlaw.com under Add this website. Click Add.
  22. Type *.westcheck.com under Add this website. Click Add. Click Close. 

Delete Temporary Internet files and Westlaw Cookies to resolve searching, slowness and sign- on issues.

  1. Click Tools on the menu bar or the Gear image and select Internet Options.
  2. Click the General Tab. In the Browsing History section, click Delete
  3. Check Temporary Internet Files and uncheck all other options. Click Delete. 
  4. In the Browsing History section, to the right of Delete button, click Settings. 
  5. Select Automatically and change the Disk space to use to 50. 
  6. Click View Files then click Search at top of the screen.
  7. Click All Files and Folders and type westlaw in the search box. Click Search. 
  8. Delete the Westlaw cookies then click the X to close the window.
  9. Click Okay. Click Okay. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
