Managing Site Permissions

Overview

Explains how to grant, remove, or edit site permissions for a specific user or multiple users.

**Using Internet Explorer to do this will result in an error! Please use Chrome or Firefox when managing permissions. **

Granting Permission to a User

  • Navigate to the site to which you want to grant new permissions.
  • On your portal site under the Site Actions menu, select Site Permissions.

  • On the next screen, click the Grant Permissions button.

  • Under the Users/Groups field, click the open book icon.

  • Search for the user's name (last name, first name). Double-click the name to add him/her, then click OK. (Repeat this step to add another user.)
  • When finished, click OK.
  • After it returns to the Grant Permissions window, select permission level you would like to grant the user(s).
  • Uncheck the “Send welcome e-mail” box if you do not want to send an email to the user.
  • Click OK.

Removing Permissions from a User

  • Navigate to the site to which you want to remove permissions.
  • On your portal site under the Site Actions menu, select Site Permissions.

  • On the next screen, check the box next to any users for which you would like to remove permissions.
  • Click the Remove User Permissions button.

  • Click OK to remove all special permissions for this user.
    • Note that if the user is a member of an audience or group that still has permission to the site, then he/she will still have the same access to the site as all of the other users in that audience/group.

Editing Permissions for a User

  • Navigate to the site to which you want to edit permissions.
  • On your portal site under the Site Actions menu, select Site Permissions.

  • On the next screen, check the box next to any users for which you would like to remove permissions.
  • Click the Edit User Permissions button.

  • Modify the permissions as desired and click OK.
