How to Use This Page

This page contains images and descriptions of known Email Scams received at IWU. The page will be listed in reverse chronological order from when the scams/spam emails were received.

If you receive one of these emails, you may delete it knowing it is indeed a scam/spam.

Note: Just because an email does not appear on this page, does not mean the email is safe. Always consider a message to be potentially malicious until proven otherwise.

From 2020

Subject: A Document was sent to you for review

Date Identified: 6/16/2020

Details:

This message claims to be from the "Microsoft Voice Message" system, which is not utilized by IWU. The message is also flagged as being from outside the IWU Mail system. Lastly, if the links within the email are hovered over, the URL indicated is a malicious address, or one that would be unfamiliar.

Date Identified: 9/20/2018

Details:

The scam in this email claims to be from the ITS Service Desk, and asks that you click a link to update your password. However, the link takes you to a malicious website, which captures your username and password once entered.

Subject: FW:[ATTENTION REQUIRED] Indiana Wesleyan University Revised Business Development, Implementation, and Review of Guidelines and Goals

Date Identified: 8/22/2018

Details:

The scam in this email claims to be from the president, and requires you to open a word document. However, the word document then links you to a malicious website.

Subject: INDWES

Date Identified: 8/10/2018

Details:

The scam in this email claims to need you to reset your password, however, the link takes you to a site that is not an IWU site and harvests the credentials entered to be used for more malicious purposes.

Details:

The scam below contains a fake message claiming to be from President Wright, and contains a link to a malicious website, which captures a user's username and password.

Details:

The scam below contains a malicious/dangerous picture attachment, and contains a vulgar and inappropriate message, but prompts the recipient to open the picture and follow the link to a malicious website.

The scam below offers a job opportunity, but is indeed fake, and contains dangerous attachments.
