Clearing Assignment Attempts Policy
Overview
This page describes the current procedure that the IWU Support Center will follow regarding student requests to modify or delete LearningStudio submissions (e.g. discussion board posts, exam attempts, and submitted assignments).
Policy
Discussion Boards, Wikis, and Blogs
In general, any action to modify or remove discussion board, wiki, or blog posts which cannot be performed by the student must be performed by the instructor. Any other posting problems, related to using features of LearningStudio (how to make the post, how to format the post etc.) will be resolved by the Support Center.
If a student requests that a posted discussion board/wiki/blog entry be modified, the Support Center will respond in the following manner:
- If the instructor has turned on the “Editing” option so that students can edit their own submissions, the Support Center will assist the student with editing or deleting their post and making the desired corrections.
- If the instructor has turned off the “Editing” option, the Support Center will assist the student with creating a new post with the desired corrections. Additionally, the Support Center will send an email to the instructor on the student’s behalf (and “carbon copy” the student) informing them of the incident. This email will also include instructions in case the instructor is uncertain how to make the necessary changes on their own. Any action to remove duplicate posts etc. that cannot be removed by the student must be removed by the instructor.
If a student requests that a discussion board/wiki/blog entry be deleted, the Support Center will send an email to the instructor on the student’s behalf (and “carbon copy” the student on the email) informing them of the incident. This email will also include instructions in case the instructor is uncertain how to delete the item on their own.
Any other posting problems (e.g. how to make the post, how to format the post etc.) will be resolved by the Support Center. If contacted by an instructor the Support Center will provide instructions to assist them in editing/removing posts.
If an instructor would prefer that students be allowed to edit their posts, instructions for enabling this option can be found here.
Exams
In general, the Support Center will provide instruction and assistance for any student technical questions related to LearningStudio exams. However, any action to reset, remove, or modify an exam attempt must be performed by the instructor.
If a student is unable to complete an exam for any reason and requests an additional exam attempt, the Support Center will respond in the following manner:
- If the instructor has allowed multiple attempts for this exam, the Support Center will assist the student with resolving any technical difficulty and restarting the exam.
- If the instructor has allowed only a single attempt, the Support Center will contact the instructor via email (on behalf of the student). The email will include instructions for allowing an additional attempt and the student will receive a copy of the email message. Granting the student another attempt (and/or assessing a penalty for lateness) is at the instructor’s discretion.
If an instructor would prefer that students be allowed multiple attempts to complete exams (without requiring the instructor’s intervention), they can find instructions for enabling this option here.
Submit Assignments
In general, the Support Center will provide instruction and assistance for any student technical questions related to submitting assignments. However, any action to remove or modify a student submitted assignment must be performed by the instructor.
If a student requests that a submitted assignment be modified or removed, the Support Center will respond in the following manner:
- If the instructor has allowed multiple submission attempts for the assignment, the Support Center will assist the student with re-submitting their assignment in order to make the desired corrections.
If an instructor would prefer that students be allowed multiple attempts to submit assignments, they can find instructions for enabling this option here.
