What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Password Reset?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security feature that helps protect your IWU university account by requiring a multiple forms of verification when signing in. In addition to your password, you'll confirm your identity using a trusted device or authentication method, helping prevent unauthorized access to your account even if your password is compromised.

Password Reset allows you to securely reset or recover your university account password without contacting the IWU IT Support Center. By verifying your identity using your previously setup Mult-Factor Authentication (MFA) methods, you can quickly regain access to your account if you forget your password or become locked out.

Why does IWU use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Password Reset?

IWU requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to help protect student, faculty, and staff accounts from unauthorized access while ensuring users can quickly regain access when needed. MFA provides an additional layer of security beyond a password, helping prevent account compromises from phishing and stolen credentials.

IWU utilizes Password Reset, which is enabled by a user having previously set up at least two Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) methods, to allow users to securely recover or reset their passwords without contacting the IT Support Center, reducing downtime and enabling faster access to university resources.

Together, these tools strengthen account security, protect sensitive university data, and provide a more convenient user experience.
