Projector Lamp Replacement Guide
A Guide for Regional Sites
Purpose of Guide
Projector lamps need replaced under the following conditions:
- lamp stops working
- lamp becomes too dim to see, even with ceiling lights off
- projector's lamp counter starts displaying notices that the lamp needs to be replaced soon
This document outlines the approved procedure for replacing the lamp in the ceiling mounted projector, while providing the responsible parties with the required information to keep adequate records and inventory levels.
Responsible Parties
- IMT, UIT, or it's designated representative to the education centers
- DIRECTOR, REGIONAL OPERATIONS AND SUPPORT
- Site Manager and Evening Manager at Education Centers

Procedure
Determine if the lamp is actually bad by unplugging the power from the projector, waiting a few seconds, and then re-applying the power. If it still does not come on when the Projector's Power On button is pressed, or if it comes on for only a few minutes then goes off. The lamp is most likely bad and needs replaced.

Understand Requirements of lamp change
- Requires approximately 20 minutes of time
- Requires climbing on a ladder
- Wait until the projector and lamp are cool to the touch (at least 15 minutes after projector is powered off)
- reset the lamp timer: Browse the advanced menu (with the projector turned on) using the projector's remote control, in order to reset the lamp hours. Instructions for this may also be found inside the new lamp's packaging.
- Verify alignment of image on the screen, as pressing the buttons may have moved the projector enough to mis-align the image.
- Visually inspect the projector's air filter at the same time as lamp change. If it is enough dust and debris blocking the vent so as to impede air flow, clean the filter and replace. Then, reset the filter timer, in the same manner that you reset the lamp timer.
- Notify the support center of any lamp that has been replaced or needs to be replaced, including the following information:
- date of lamp installation (or requested time frame),
- lamp or projector model,
- hours used on lamp, or confirmation that lamp and filter timers have both been reset to 0,
- any requested follow-up,
- Re-stocking of lamps and determining the quantity of lamps kept in stock at each site will be at the discretion of IT and the Director of Regional Operations and Support. Frequency of room usage, age and quantity of projectors, are some of the factors used to determine quantity of lamps kept in stock at each site.
- The Director of Regional Operations and Support has conditionally provided funding for replacement lamps. Some factors that may result in a rejected request for funding a lamp replacement, are the availability of a newer alternate projector, or the scheduled refresh of that site's classroom technology.
- Recycle the lamps responsibly. IT will take and recycle the lamps, if a local recycling option is unavailable or unknown.
Exclusions
Some installed projectors will never need lamps replaced. New projectors purchased in 2019 or later will have a laser light source, good for the life of the projector (20,000 hours or 12 years).
