Disable the Synaptics Pointing Stick

Overview

This article will walk you through disabling the pointing stick (mouse in the middle of the keyboard) present with some employee computers.

Symptoms

Some employees will complain that they keep unintentionally clicking or moving the mouse by hitting the pointing stick.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, follow the steps in this section.

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel and click on Mouse (you may need to switch the View by: option to small or large icons).
  2. In the new window, select the Device Settings tab.
  3. Select the Synaptics TouchStyk V2.0 and click Disable.
  4. Click Apply and then OK.

Results

The pointing stick will now be disabled and will no longer interfere with normal use.
