Password Management for Brightspace Admin Accounts

General

If this is your first time logging into your Brightspace admin account, you will need to create a password for this account, or if you have logged in previously but need to reset your password, please carefully follow the steps in the Instructions section of this article. Be sure to follow each step in the order that they appear.

Instructions

1. If you have already logged into your regular Brightspace account, the IWU Portal or any University site that uses single sign-on, make sure to log out of all sites before proceeding. We strongly recommend that you use Chrome.
   1. From the minibar, select the Personal Menu.
   2. Select Log Out.
2. Access the Brightspace Admin Login page.
   1. If you are taken to the Brightspace main landing page or the IWU network login page instead of the admin login page, make sure to follow Step 1 above and then select the admin login page link from Step 2 again.
3. Select the Forgot your admin password? link.
4. The Admin Username field requires you to enter the username for your administrative account, not your regular IWU username. The username for your admin account will be the same as your regular IWU username with .adm appended, i.e., john.doe.adm. If your regular IWU username contains a number at the end, an abbreviation, or a hyphen, the same structure will be included in your administrative account's username, i.e., jane.doe2.adm, j.doe.adm, or jane.doe-fawn.adm.
5. If you entered the username for your Brightspace administrative account correctly, an email will be sent to your IWU email address with a link to reset your password. If you do not receive an email and have checked your junk mail box, attempt Step 1 and Step 2 of this section again. Make sure there is no extra space or character in the Admin Username field, and that you followed the nomenclature outlined in Step 4 of this section.
6. On the Admin Password Reset page:
   1. Ensure that you input your Brightspace administrative account username in the Admin Username field.
   2. Please refer to Step 4 of this section for the nomenclature of admin usernames.
   3. Your new admin password must meet all of the following requirements:
      1. Minimum of 16 characters
      2. Contain at least 3 of the 4 following character types:
         1. Lowercase letter
         2. Uppercase letter
         3. Numerical number (e.g., 1, 2)
         4. Non-alphanumeric (e.g., !, $)
      3. Cannot be one of your previous admin passwords
      4. Cannot contain your username, first or last name, or ID number
7. After entering your new password twice in the appropriate fields, select the Submit button. If your admin username is incorrect or your password does not meet one of the requirements, the system will prompt you with an error message. Please review Step 4 of this section again before trying to select the Submit button again.
8. Once you successfully reset your password, follow the Return to the direct login page link.
9. After entering your admin account's username and password, select the Log In button.
